Saad Abdul Wahab Khan

Mr. Saad Abdul Wahab, a distinguished individual, made a significant mark in the realm of Health, Safety & Environment (HSE). His journey began with academic excellence when he participated in the Indigenous Scholarships GAT General Exam (GAT 2012-IV), conducted by NTS and HEC for M.Phil leading to Ph.D qualifications. In this rigorous competition, Mr. Saad secured an outstanding 98.1 percentile, attaining the remarkable 2nd position nationwide among over 10,000 BE/BS/M.Sc qualified candidates.

Despite numerous offers from multiple universities for M.Phil leading to Ph.D programs, Mr. Saad’s trajectory took a turn after the tragic Baldia Factory fire on 11-09-2012, where 260 workers lost their lives. Motivated by this incident, he chose to discontinue his academic pursuit and passionately embraced the profession of Occupational Safety & Health.

Mr. Saad Abdul Wahab is a highly qualified HSE professional with a diverse background and extensive experience in all facets of HSE. Commencing his career in 2005 as a High School Teacher and O/A Levels Tutor, he continued his association with teaching even during his engineering and master’s studies. In 2012, he transitioned to become a Health, Safety, and Environment Professional.

Mr. Saad is BE Textile and MSC Applied Chemistry & Chemical Technology qualified with Specialization in Petroleum & Petrochemical Technology. During his professional Degree Qualifications, he completed the Plant Design Engineering Project on the Soap Industry, the PACE 2011 Award Winning Commercial Scale Multipurpose Water Treatment Plant Project, the LOBP 03 Point Analysis Loss Prevention Project, the Coastal Geology Research Project, Award Winning (Calculus) Trinomial Formulation Project for Simplification of Polynomial Expressions with infinitely large indices.

Mr. Saad has an OSH Level 06 qualification in OSH Management from the British Safety Council (UK) and a Level 06 Safety Engineering Diploma (370 credit hours qualification) from NCFE (UK). Further, he has been awarded with honorary designation of TSP/ASP from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (USA) under the Qualification Equivalence Program (QEP). He is also a graduate Diploma Qualified in Labour and Industrial Welfare from the Labour Department (Government of Sindh). Mr. Saad has also completed 06 months of Diploma Qualification in Oil and Gas Safety.

Mr. Saad is qualified from Federal Civil Defence Training School Karachi and secured 1st Position in the Authorized Safety Instructor Course (01-month duration). Moreover, he has been awarded with Qualification of Authorized Safety Instructor from DG Federal Civil Defence Pakistan. Mr. Saad has also qualified for various Courses from Federal Civil Defence (Ministry of Interior), and NILAT (Labour & HR Department. – Govt. of Sindh).

Mr. Saad Abdul Wahab is IRCA Certified Lead Auditor for ISO 9001:2015 (QMS), ISO 14001:2015 (EMS), ISO 45001:2018 (OHSMS), Ex. LA BS 18001:2007 (OHSAS), SGS Certified Lead Implementer for ISO 22000:2018 (FSMS). Labour Department Certified Lead Implementer for Social Accountability Standard SA 8000:2014 (SAI), DACCT Certified Lead Implementer of ISO/IEC 17025:2017 (Lab Safety Standard). API Certified Lead Implementer of API Spec Q1, 9th Edition, Documentation, Implementation, Risk Assessment through PFMEA, Internal and External Auditing, etc. In addition, he is also a qualified Lead Implementer for the British Retail Consortium Global Standard of Food Safety, BRCGS.

Mr. Saad has 10 years’ experience in HSE Field implementation in diversified industrial sectors including Pharmaceutical, Petrochemical, Textile, Retail, Cement Manufacturing, Power Sector, Hospitals, FMCG, Food Industry (Confectionery, Baking, Meat, Fresh and Dairy), Chemicals and Restaurants Chain.

Mr. Saad has conducted Fire Safety Audits of Multiple Organizations through the NPO (National Productivity Organization) and the Ministry of Industries. He has conducted Fire Safety Inspections, Assessments, Audits and Fire Load Calculations of Master Group of Companies, Adamjee Enterprises, Iceberg Industries, Siemens, Arif Habib Group Companies, OMNI Group Companies, Thatta Cement, Thatta Power (Pvt) Ltd., AKD Securities, Continental Trade Center, Prestige Trade Center, Imtiaz Super Market (all branches and warehouses), Lucky Cement, Indus Pharmaceutical, Hilal Group of Companies, Artistic Milliners, The Kidney Center, etc. Mr. Saad has also conducted Fire Safety Audits, Inspections, and Training of multiple Textile Manufacturers through the Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturing Association & SMEDA.

Mr. Saad has conducted 150 plus Batches of IOSH MS since 2011.100 plus batches of IRCA Lead Auditor Courses, 40 batches of NEBOSH IGC, and 20 batches of IDSE (NCFE and Qualifi UK). Mr. Saad has served PHMA, SMEDA, NPO, FCDTSK, NILAT, SGS Pakistan, and various other reputed Training Bodies as a freelance HSE Trainer and Consultant.

Mr. Saad has been designated as the Honorary Media Manager of the Department of Applied Chemistry & Chemical Technology (University of Karachi). He designed and developed the very 1st documentary of DACCT (KU). As a volunteer, he has remained the organizing committee member of multiple events and projects including the Green Pakistan Plantation Drive, Environment Excellence Seminars and Awards, Blood Donation Drives, Free Medical Camps in rural areas, and Education and Community Development based CSR Projects. Scouts Training Programs of Federal Civil Defence Pakistan, Naegleria Free Clean Water Projects of KW&SB, Hazardous Dust Control Projects of Mines & Minerals Department, etc.

Mr. Saad holds the designation of Transitional Safety Practitioner (TSP) from BCSP (USA). He has remained a Technical and Graduate Member of IOSH (UK). He is also the Ex. International Member of the American Society of Safety Professionals (Formerly ASSE). Mr. Saad is currently a Member of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KCCI) the founder and Director/Chief Executive of Synergy & Sustainability (Pvt) Ltd., and Grow Safe (Pvt.) Ltd. Mr. Saad has also remained the Technical Committee Member of ISO from Pakistan.

Mr. Saad has developed training materials and curriculum for various reputed organizations like SGS Pakistan, NILAT, Federal Civil Defence, GSPL, and Health Service Academy Islamabad. The courses he developed including 06 months OSH Diploma Program, Authorized Gas Testing, Confined Space Entry, LOTOTO Safety, Scaffolding Safety, Work at Height, PTW System, Overhead Bridge Cranes Safety, Internal Auditing Courses for IMS (QMS, EMS, OHSMS), Safe use of SCBA, General Workplace Hazards and Control Measures, Hazards Identification and Risk Assessment, Accidents Investigation and Root Cause Analysis, Silicosis Prevention Program, and multiple customized training courses on request of National and Multinational Clients.

  1. Saad established the very first Silicosis Diagnostic Center of Pakistan in Thatta Cement Co. Ltd., under the Supreme Court Order (Human Rights Case # 16143-P/2014) in the matter regarding Hazardous Emission of Dust by Stone/Marble Crushing & Grinding Causing Silicosis. After establishing the Silicosis Diagnostic Center in TCCL, Mr. Saad requested the Secretary of Labour – Government of Sindh (Mr. A. Rasheed Solangi) to call a meeting in Tughlaq House – Sindh Secretariat with the Mines & Minerals Department, SEPA, and Health Department to set the minimum standard criteria for a Silicosis Diagnostic Center for all Cement Factories in Sindh Province. The meeting held successful and all Cement Factories in Sindh established Silicosis Diagnostic Centers as per the set criteria proposed by Mr. Saad Abdul Wahab. Later on, Mr. Saad conducted highly specialized training at the Mines & Minerals Department under the supervision of Chief Inspector Mines (Mr. Syed Irshad Ahmed Jilani) for Cement Factories, Mines, Stone & Marble Crushing, Grinding unit owners for a better understanding of Hazards and Control Measures.
  2. Saad played a vital role in the Covid-19 Pandemic Management in supermarkets / Departmental Stores (Public Sector Organizations) and Food Industries. As both sectors were highly concerned areas. Mr. Saad assisted the Government of Sindh in Developing the Covid-19 Precautionary SOPs Draft for supermarkets. Mr. Saad successfully leads the Covid Committee of Pakistan’s largest Super Markets Chain (Imtiaz) as Chairman of the Covid-19 Prevention Committee. Later on, Mr. Saad successfully executed the Covid-19 immunization project at Hilal Group of Industries by organizing 12 in-house vaccination camps at Hilal Foods in coordination with the District Health Office where 8000 plus workers of the Food Industry were vaccinated.
  3. Saad organized the Food Handlers Training Program as per the guidelines of the Sindh Food Authority (SFA Act 2016), Food Safety Management System (FSMS), and AOSH Food Safety & HACCP Level 02 Course. Mr. Saad trained 800 plus food handlers during the 04 months Food Handlers Training Program.
  4. Saad established HSE Departments in Indus Pharmaceutical (Pvt.) Limited, Thatta Cement Company Limited, Thatta Power (Pvt.) Limited, Imtiaz Super Market, Hilal Care (Pvt.) Limited and Domino’s Pizza Pakistan. All organizations are running their HSE functions successfully.
  5. After the Baldia Factory Blaze, Mr. Saad trained thousands of Textile Industry Management Level Professionals on Fire Safety, First Aid, and Chemicals Safety through the Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturing Association (PHMA) in association with the Small & Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) and Bfz gGmbH. During consecutive three (03) years Training Program, Mr. Saad was the only trainer who secured 90% plus training feedback from participants in all trainings. All these trainings were organized and conducted in PHMA House Karachi.
  6. For Health & Safety awareness, Mr. Saad has developed multiple Social Media Pages. The total followers of all three (03) pages are 700k. Besides this, Mr. Saad has created a platform for HSE Heads through a WhatsApp Group for collective Intelligence in the HSE Fraternity. Further to establish a one-window solution for Legal Compliances related to HSE, Mr. Saad has created a Link (Downloads – Grow Safe HSE) that all HSE Professionals can access the laws and standards related to HSE.
